Time tracking that turns hours into invoices

Start a timer or log time by hand, mark it billable, and pull unbilled hours straight into an invoice — on iPhone, iPad and the web.

The essentials

Every hour accounted for

Time in Orbit is tied to the task, project and client it was spent on, so it's ready to bill the moment you stop the clock.

  • A one-tap timer

Start a timer on a task in the app, or from the Time Tracking page on the web. One timer runs at a time: starting a new one stops the last.

  • Manual entries

Forgot to start the timer? Add hours and minutes by hand. On the web you can pick the day the work happened.

  • Billable or not

Mark each entry billable or non-billable and change it whenever you like. Once an entry is on an invoice, it's shown as Billed.

  • Import time into invoices

Pull a client's unbilled billable time into an invoice: one line per description, priced at the client's hourly rate.

  • Budgets that count your hours

Tracked time counts toward a project's hours cap and, at the client's rate, toward its budget.

  • Smart status

Starting a timer on a To Do task moves it to In Progress, free on every plan.

How it looks

From the timer to the invoice

On the web

One page for all your time

The Time Tracking page puts the running timer at the top, then your tracked and billable totals, then every entry grouped by day.

  • Pick a client, project and task before you start
  • A total for each day
  • Flip an entry between billable and non-billable in one click

Home

Unbilled time in plain sight

Home shows a running timer you can stop from there, and a Money card with the value of your unbilled time next to your open invoices.

  • Unbilled time is valued at each client's hourly rate
  • Amounts are never converted between currencies
  • On a client's page on the web, start an invoice from their unbilled time

Projects

Keep projects on budget

Give a project a budget and an optional hours cap. Its Budget section shows hours tracked, how much billable time and expenses have used, what's been invoiced, your profit and your effective hourly rate.

  • Over-budget amounts and hours are flagged in red
  • Effective rate is what you invoiced divided by hours tracked

Get started

Bill your time in three steps

  1. Track it

Start the timer on a task when you begin, or add the time afterwards.

  2. Mark what's billable

Entries are billable unless you say otherwise. Switch off the ones you won't charge for.

  3. Invoice it

In the invoice builder, tap Import time to turn the client's unbilled hours into invoice lines.

Time tracking is free

Timers, manual entries, billable hours and importing time into invoices are all on the Free plan. Invoices on Free carry the Orbit watermark; Orbit Pro removes it.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Timers, manual entries, billable and non-billable time and importing time into invoices are all included in the Free plan.

No, one at a time. Starting a new timer stops the one that's running, so time is never counted twice.

In the invoice builder, Import time brings in the client's billable time that hasn't been invoiced yet. Entries with the same description become one line, priced at the client's hourly rate, and are marked as billed once the invoice is saved.

Yes. Add hours and minutes by hand on a task in the app, or use Add time on the web, where you can also choose the date and link the entry to a client, project or task.

Orbit runs on iPhone and iPad, and on the web through the Orbit dashboard, with your time entries synced between them. An Android app is coming soon.
